SportsDesk is an award-winning half-hour show featuring both national and UM sports. This weekly show airs LIVE every Friday at 7 pm and highlights the best of the week’s sports with interviews of Hurricane athletes and coaches, commentary, and in-depth analysis of upcoming games.

MEET THE STUDENTS

Erika Glass
Executive Producer

Erika Glass is a senior at the University of Miami. She was born in Caracas, Venezuela and moved to Miami at age seven. She has interned at CBS News in New York and WPBT2, South Florida’s local PBS station. In addition to her work at UMTV, she also serves as the managing editor for The Miami Hurricane student newspaper and president of the Federación de Estudiantes Cubanos (FEC).

Oliver Redsten
Online Editor

Oliver Redsten started off his UMTV career in his freshman year as the sports anchor of NewsVision. After one semester as sports anchor, he was promoted to co-anchor of the program. Redsten also works as a play-by-play announcer for the University of Miami’s student radio station, WVUM. He has traveled around the region covering Hurricanes basketball, baseball, and volleyball. Over the summer he interned at WMTV, the Madison affiliate of NBC.Although he loves the Miami Hurricanes, Redsten will always be a die-hard Wisconsin Badgers fan.

Nick Swyter
Station Manager

Nick Swyter has been a member of UMTV since his freshman year. For producing an in-depth story on immigration reform, Swyter was recently awarded the Society of Professional Journalism’s 2013 Mark of Excellence Award. His international reporting experience includes interning at Indonesia’s MetroTV News and a Pulitizer Center on Crisis Reporting fellowship that took him to an indigenous region of Panama. He hopes to innovate UMTV by introducing digital tools and techniques that he picked up as an intern at the Knight Foundation.
