The Culture is UMTV’s first and only show highlighting the Black experience. The fifteen minute program covers cultural, political, entertainment, and sports. Stories are produced and edited by students at University of Miami that identify with "The Culture". Join us as we dive into understanding each other and the world we live in.



Kristion Matas
Executive Producer

Kristion Matas is a senior at the University of Miami, majoring in Motion Pictures business and minoring in Interactive Media and Electronic Media. He has always had a passion for television and thrives on camera. He worked as an actor while attending Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. Kristion created UMTV’s The Culture alongside Rachel Smith. He aims to start his own Multi-Media entertainment company specializing in reality television and video games.

Rachel Smith
Executive Producer

Rachel Smith is a vivacious broadcast journalism and sports administration double major. She is devoted to telling stories that impact people and change lives. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated and holds several positions in the Tau Rho chapter. In her down time, you can find her cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles or reading a book off of President Obama’s reading list. Rachel plans to change the world one story at a time!
